Heatwave

Heat Wave is an environmental short film that explores Afro-Caribbean diasporic relations to Indigenous land within Ontario's Grand River watershed. Heatwave engages with the shared responsibility of stewardship of land rightfully owed to the Six Nations of The Grand River.

Featuring spoken word and original music, Heatwave portrays the ways Afro-diasporic people participate in sustainability practices with regard to: Black hair care methods (ie braiding/weaving with reusable materials), plant propagation/maintenance, and styling designed to stave off fast fashion.

 
 

 

tHIS LIVE STREAM IS APART OF an in-person EXHIBIT of Heatwave that is accompanied by a mobile installation created by Alyssa Mattrasingh.

HAPPENING AT THE KITCHENER pUBLIC lIBRARY FROM aPRIL 1ST - aPRIL 30TH. the short film has been transformed into an exhibit featuring work from the film made exclusively for the KPL. made from a combination of natural and synthetic recycled materials that once deconstructed, for its components, will be returned to the earth or repurposed again after the exhibit.
